Through a dead-end corridor along one of Whistler Village's interior walkways, Maxx Fish comes to life along a small terrace flanked by misleading velvet rope and flannel shirted bouncer. A dark stairway leads to the hip-hop basement of this beloved pub and dance bar that fuels the endless adolescent nights of a snowboarder population well into their renegade 30s and 40s. Built around a circular bar attended by scruffy bartenders with firefighter good looks, a bi-level lounge area surrounded a central dance floor hovered over my amateur go-go dancers and well-arranged DJ spinning rock anthems after Rihanna tunes and reggae classics. Maxx Fish offers one of Whistler best dance clubs yet to be inundated by tourists and dressy cougars looking for their ski vacation kill. Wednesday is electronic night; Fridays are hip-hop and party anthems, Saturday Top-40 and electronic house.
